Config Recipes

See Creating & Managing Configs for the full set of rdt config options. This page is a set of practical recipes.

Generate nodes from an IP file, without a template

Node 1 gets every module type; nodes 2 and 3 get only SNA and RDB (the same layout as the small template).

Probe node hardware while creating a config

RDT connects to each node over SSH and detects its CPU thread count and RAM, leaving those unset otherwise (the System Manager decides them at startup if you don’t probe or set them yourself). Probing also looks for unmounted, unformatted block devices on each node and assigns any it finds (above ~20GB) to that node’s RDB module(s) automatically. If a node has no such device attached, its RDB module still ends up with no device, and you’ll need to add one manually. See Quickstart: Single-Node RegattaDB for the manual device-assignment steps.

Save a config to a local file instead of the config store

Useful for reviewing or version-controlling a config before importing it. A config created this way with --output isn’t saved to ~/.rdt/configs/, so it won’t appear in rdt config list until you load it.

Import an existing config file

If you omit --name, the config is named after the file (its filename without the .json extension).

Export a config for sharing or version control
